Destination Guide to Mallorca

Sarah LewisUncategorised

Nestled in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea, the enchanting island of Mallorca is best known for its sun-drenched beaches, sandy coves, and laid-back Balearic way of life. A go-to holiday destination for Brits, thanks to the short travel time and welcoming locals. Perhaps less well-known is that Mallorca is also a coveted destination for hosting fabulous events. From intimate gatherings to extravagant weddings, Mallorca offers a tapestry of experiences that elevate any occasion. Many leading event planners agree. Mallorca is a mesmerising backdrop to any occasion. And to help you plan, here’s the TLC destination guide to Mallorca which gives you the VIP tour of the hot spots and the best venues for your next Balearic adventure.

BEST AIRLINE – TUI AIRWAYS

Whether you want a budget deal or to travel in style, there are a host of airlines that fly direct from airports all over the UK thanks to Mallorca’s popularity with the British public. We’ve chosen TUI Airways as our airline of choice. It’s a slight step up from the lower end of budget flights but still very affordable. Our top tip, upgrade to premium for priority boarding, extra baggage allowance, larger, comfier seats, food, and premium drinks, plus pillows, blankets, and amenity kit, among a whole host of benefits.

For smaller or more exclusive groups, super upgrade and fly private jet. It truly sets the tone for a luxe experience.

BEST HOTEL – ZEL HOTEL PALMA NOVA

We couldn’t let a destination guide to Mallorca pass without a mention of a hotel collaboration with tennis ace Rafael Nadal. Not that the name-associated kudos is needed for this gem of a residence in Palma Nova. Whitewashed wood, seagrass, and comfortable sofas deliver laid-back, breezy vibes harmonised with the property’s beachside location. Yet guests don’t flock here just for the views, magnetic as they are, ZEL Hotel Palma Nova provides an impeccable balance of R&R, rest, and revelry, or ‘siesta and fiesta’ as its website boasts. With two pools, a gym, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, and aromatherapy spa to luxuriate in by day; then live entertainment and a hefty helping of dance beats post 7pm, it’s a seamless fusion of two worlds.

BEST VENUE FOR A CORPORATE EVENT

You could not find a more spectacular event venue than Bendinat Castle – a Moorish farm estate dating back to the 13th century. TLC has held numerous events in this iconic building, including one of the most memorable weddings we have ever organised. A neo-Gothic, medieval fortress for a venue. What more could you ask? Outdoor dining that’s shaded by a canopy of towering palm trees. Okay sounds ideal. Acres of lush, well-tended landscaped gardens. Tick. Oh, and there are sea views too. It’s a venue with an abundance of character and charm. You might just say it has it all!

BEST ROOFTOP BAR – SKY BAR AT HOTEL ALMUNDAINA

Our destination guide to Mallorca includes the popular options and some more unique experiences. Some say this is Mallorca’s best-kept secret, a hidden gem in the true sense of the word. A place to steal away, slow down, and lose yourself in the sea breeze, the picture-perfect views of the Cathedral and the Mediterranean Sea. Bask in the chill-out music and savour the cocktails. Although a leisurely afternoon or evening at the SKY Bar will deliver all of this and more, the fact that you’ll get it all to yourself is less likely now that it has been included in the top fifty rooftop bars in Europe. It’s easy to see why, as this venue offers a true urban oasis. It’s a must-visit for those who know how to enjoy the small pleasures in life.

BEST SPOT TO WOW A CLIENT – BENS D’AVALL

A Michelin-starred restaurant located between Deia and Soller. The food itself cooked with love by two generations in a family-run kitchen is wow factor enough, but add in a lofty, dramatic clifftop location and views out across the Mediterranean Sea and your client will not fail to be wowed. You simply must, MUST, book a table on the terrace to make the most of this restaurant’s unique jaw-dropping location.

BEST RESTAURANT FOR A BUSINESS DINNER – ES FUM AT THE ST. REGIS MARDAVALL HOTEL

Holding a Michelin Star since 2011, this acclaimed restaurant inside the St Regis Mardavall Hotel offers gastronomical delights in a sumptuous setting. According to the Michelin Guide, ‘if we accept the premise that Mallorca is a mini paradise on earth, this restaurant occupying the luxurious St. Regis Mardavall hotel can be considered one of its greatest treasures.’

Chef Miguel Navarro displays a mix of fine taste, technique, and creativity to create spectacular menus highlighting the freshest island produce. The outstanding food coupled with views from the terrace which are embellished with striking sculptures combine to make for an evening to remember.

A HIDDEN GEM – RESTAURANT NAMA

Another restaurant with spectacular views and a unique location in the mountain village of Deia in the North of Mallorca. The cuisine here is Southeast Asian influenced – China, Singapore, Malaysia, and Vietnam to give more precise inspiration. And it is simply divine. Rustic décor blends effortlessly with the natural surroundings here, framing the spectacular mountain views.

WHAT INTERESTING FACT WOULD YOU TELL A CLIENT

Aside from it being the birthplace of Rafael Nadal (so nice we mentioned him twice), Mallorca is home to one of the world’s largest underground lakes.

Cuevas del Drach is a subterranean cave system near Porto Cristo which is full of enormous stalactites and stalagmites and contains one the largest underground lakes in the world – Lake Martel.

ONE FINAL SHOWSTOPPER

We never usually include a footnote on our destination guides, but this hotel needed a place to shine. A retreat of unrivalled opulence nestled in the heart of the Sierra de Tramontana, a UNESCO Heritage Site, surrounded by mountains, flora, and fauna. It’s not a spot for an event but my goodness we may just spend a week here once our work is done.

And lets not forget, the Four Seasons is opening there soon.  Looks to be incredible!
