Film, literature and television are brilliant wedding inspiration – not only as a way of expressing the personalities of the happy couple, but also acting as an overarching theme to tie the day together. Celebrity wedding planner Liz Taylor of the Taylor Lynn Corporation shares her tips on how to plan a wedding based on a much-loved film or book with real life inspiration from the many events she has planned throughout her career.

“When a couple wants a wedding based on a film, TV series or book they love, I’m always excited – it’s going to be an event where we can go wild with imagination. A bride might have had a fairy-tale wedding in her mind since childhood, and it’s my job to deliver that dream. We all want to be that beautiful Disney inspired princess!

Some couples feel nervous though about working within a themed wedding day. They fear it might come across as a bit over-the-top – but there’s an art to keeping things tasteful. My golden rules? Spend money in the right places and make sure drama is infused into every detail.”

Back to the Future
The eighties left their mark on music and film. Star Wars. Indiana Jones. Top Gun. But the most popular of them all, and a recent request, is a wedding around the movie franchise of Back to the Future. On arrival, guests can be greeted by the original iconic DeLorean driven by Michael J Fox – which provides a real talking point and sets the scene perfectly. An Enchantment Under the Sea party, with a set that whisks you back to the 1960s, and a live band performing. Dinner should be an American diner with malts, sundaes, cones and floats all on the menu.

Sarah Ferguson could make history with this move at Princess Beatrice wedding

PRINCESS BEATRICE made headlines last week after her engagement to millionaire boyfriend Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi was announced to the world. Mother of the bride Sarah Ferguson shared a number of sweet statements online.
Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, is a British writer, charity patron, film producer, television personality and most of all proud mum. Gushing in a touching online tribute to daughter Princess Beatrice and soon to be son-in-law Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, the mother of two said: “I know what a mother feels so I have tears of joy. I am so proud of this sensational news. “Andrew and I are just the luckiest people ever to have two great sons in law.”
The couple, who shared their happy news last week after a whirlwind romance, said they were “excited to embark on this life adventure together and can’t wait to be married”.

Creating a Dedicated Destination for the Northern Events Community


Following the success of its London exhibition, Venues and Events Live will introduce its inaugural Manchester event on 24th September at Manchester Central Convention Complex.

Over 1500 industry professionals are expected to attend the free-to-register event which is set to host over 120 industry exhibitors including hotels, venues, bars, restaurants and event suppliers.

Ahead of Venues + Events Live Manchester, Kane Thomas, Group Show Manager discusses the reason behind launching the Show.


Why did you decide to launch Venues + Events Live Manchester?

After speaking to the industry it was evident that there was a need for a show that was dedicated to the northern events community. Over 67% of our visitors to the 2018 London Show, reported they organise events outside London. Therefore when Ocean Media acquired the show last year, we made the decision to bring the Venues + Events Live brand to the North. We’re delighted to be supporting the industry and promoting a destination of the North.


What types of suppliers will be exhibiting at Venues + Events Live Manchester?

You’ll find a mix of suppliers at the Show this year, everything from hotels such as The Lowry Hotel, Malmaison, King Street Townhouse and the Titanic Hotel. Venues include Manchester United FC, Yorkshire Event Centre and Emirates Old Trafford. Then there’s bars and restaurants such as Be At One, 20 Stories, Cloud 23 and The Alchemist. Not forgetting our event suppliers Hawthorn, Wow Grass and Thorns. We’ve had a great response from the industry so far and over 100 brands are booked in for the Show. So, if you’re looking to reach an events audience outside of London then please get in touch and join us in September. 

Who will attend the Show?

In short, anyone who plans events! Venues + Events Live typically attracts a loyal audience of corporate event bookers and other event professionals including managers, directors, agents, partners, consultants, executives, PA’s/EA’s and many others working in the field. 

What is the Hosted Buyer programme and what are the benefits?

Our hosted buyer programme is for those who organise more than 10 events a year and have a budget of over £100,000. We aim to decrease the weeks they spend on research, online planning and phone calls by providing you with key, innovative information. Can you tell us a bit more about what visitors can learn at the Show?

Aside from saving the time on sourcing new suppliers, our visitors will leave with new tips and tricks to take back to the office! We fully understand that taking a day out to come to the Show can be tricky, if you’re busy event planner or PA, so we’ve tried to ensure visitors make the most of their time at the show by putting on an educational seminar programme and hands-on masterclasses.

Taking the Holistic Approach to Event Management

Holistic events: we’re not talking acupuncture and herbal tea, but how every aspect of an event, from the invitation through to the carriages, can be an opportunity to reinforce a brand’s message, ultimately making your investment work harder.

In a time of economic uncertainty there’s a need for businesses to amplify the impact of every penny spent. And when budgets are under scrutiny, events – by their very nature elaborate, ‘showy’, often deemed expensive – are frequently first in line for the budget cuts.

What if there was an approach to event management that will not only maximise the potential of a corporate event, but even better, could result in you spending less and achieving more? The key is taking a holistic view, where every element works hard to promote the company message and meet the event objectives.

Thinking holistically keeps things focused and the first step of the process is creating a clear set of achievable goals.
